So to Dubrovnik we retreated with sadness in our hearts, but undaunted we set off for friendlier parts A golf calendar reduced us to six as Roger did depart. What a treat he missed, an island undiscovered. A deserted field called Losignji, which we had earlier overflown but it had Avgas and customs so this was our chosen goal. What an inspired choice, an island beautiful and a wonderful hotel. We spent two days here, wined and dined and some relaxed. Others walked over the hills and far away but not me! I'm getting too old for that I spent the day sightseeing in the town drinking coffee and local brew in the many taverns. At last we had to think of home and to Albenga we departed. From this island, across the Adriatic but this time the Apennines were less daunting, the clouds were higher than before and so through the valleys we flew to clear skies most welcome the Med was a gladdening sight, so across the sea to Albenga was an easy flight Albenga had nothing remarkable to relate, so in the morning we did depart on our penultimate flight together, a return to Valence, the destination as our first night. A farewell dinner was consumed with less than normal wine but ended up with cuddles from Madame, the owner most divine. She was a pretty sight, she promotes her restaurant very well methinks, we have been away from home too long and now we must return And so to the final chapter, here we parted company and to our final destinations we flew, a sad moment for all. MALC flew solo via Troyes where vacuum pump gave up. They say problems come in threes, I now believe it true. On to Le Touquet and then to home I flew. Without full instruments on take off this was a challenge in cloud flying on turn and slip is a skill I had thankfully remembered. All others got home safely, which is the ultimate goal. Our GUST's are great fun and to others might seem daunting but We fly with 'safety first' as our primary intention. This ensures future pleasures with happy endings. My apologies to one and all, but I must this tale relate. What life is this if so full of care we have no time to aviate. Brian (Shortfellow) Grumpy Tie |
