...of course we paid a visit to "Das Hofbrauhaus- biergarten for a taste of the world famous Bavarian beers!

Tuesday 24/06, the morning started with "Donner und Blitzen". Since Peter was joining us on the tour we said goodbye to his wife and the lovely neighbours and set off all together to the airport. Not only was it raining and thundering but also when we arrived at the airfield we couldn't even see a single plane, all disappeared!. Our hearts stopped for a moment, where had our planes gone?. Not to worry, the very helpful locals had moved them inside their hangars, what a service!.
This was also a welcome bonus; we could do all our preparations and checks inside the hangar without getting wet. In the end the CB's proved to be nothing more than a few rain showers with some flashes, there was no wind no turbulence. Joined now by Peter & Ed in D-ENFL we left EDNX and flew around the Munich CTR to Eggenfelden (EDME) for a fill up and custom clearance since we were leaving the EU .

Nigel report:

The next day dawned with superb weather and very warm. Naturally the heat had its effect on the density altitude and we used plenty of the 1070 meters (3480ft) of runway being weighed down to our gunwales with tents, sleeping bags and other accoutrements. Our destination this time was Oberschleissheim (EDNX) We had been very kindly invited to stay with Peter Romeikat and his wife Vilja who live near Munich. This meant another sun-drenched flight over green rolling fields with very little ATC work all the way in a southeastly direction to Oberschleissheim.

The approach and landmarks in to Oberschleissheim were easily identified as the turn on to final approach was over the old Munich Olympic Games rowing lake - long and thin - not even I could miss it! The landing too, was just a trifle unusual in that we all landed, turned left to the edge of the runway and then idled away whilst lined up head to tail waiting for all incoming aircraft to land, before rumba'ing back across the runway to the apron. Heaven only knows what would have happened if a pilot had made a mistake on landing or had had a brake malfunction. Potentially a whole row of Grummans could have been wiped out!!

On the apron at Oberschleissheim we were met by Peter and, that long term quasi-European, Ed Manning. These two were joining up once again to partake of our adventure in Peter's Tiger. A half hour car journey brought us to Peter's house where we were all wonderfully accommodated. Everyone had a mattress or a bed - no hard ground sleeping for us (Peter & Vilja's neighbour even helped out by providing beds for a number of us and even inviting us all round for drinks and nibbles on our second evening there - such nice people). Peter & Vilja treated us superbly, We sat out in their garden eating cakes, drinking coffee and other beverages. They wined and dined us, gave us breakfasts, huge barbeques and provided wonderful company. We took the opportunity to go by train in to Munich itself, where we did all the touristy things. Visits to the imposing cathedrals, the clarion bells in the main square and most importantly to the Munich BrewHof - a famous establishment were unfortunate people just have to partake of beer, from big jugs, served by buxom wenches whilst trying to listen to an 'Oompha' band, chat up the other tourists and generally have a good time.
