Ein kräftiges Hoch über Frankreich bescherte den anreisenden Piloten „Kaiserwette". Nicht den Fliegern aus England. Graham Baker saß in Wales fest und kämpfte mit dem Wetter und der Administration in Frankreich, alles lief schief. Für seine Leistung, dennoch rechtzeitig zum großen AYA Fest am 29. Mai einzufliegen, bekam er die Norman Whisler Trophy.

Der Empfang in Valdera ist überwältigend. Der Club hatte für das Grumman Meeting Tuscany 2009 alte Automobile, Ultralight, Ballonfliegen, Modellfugzeuge u.v.a. einbezogen; kurzum, ein wunderschönes lokales Fliegerfest inmitten der Zypressen, Weinberge und den terracottafarbenen Häusern. Die Crews werden standesgemäß in alten aber äußerst gepflegten Autos abgeholt oder im typisch italienischen 3 Radfahrzeug. Am Abend des 29. Mai steht eine lange Reihe von Grumman Flugzeugen auf dem „international airport Valdera", wie Marco Petroni die 700 m lange Graspiste liebevoll nennt. Die Piloten staunen nicht schlecht, als sie einen Turm sehen, der die Funktion eines Towers hat aber einem römischen Festungsturm nachgebaut ist - eigens für das Grumman Festival erstellt.

A strong High over France ensured excellent flying weather but not for some UK pilots. Graham Baker was stuck in Wales fighting the weather. With further problems in France things were not looking good. Nevertheless through his determination he achieved a timely arrival to the great AYA event and for this received the Norman Whistler Trophy.

The reception in Valdera was overwhelming. For this year's event, the club had brought in vintage cars, ultralights, balloon flights, model aircraft and so on. In short it was a wonderful local flying festival held in the midst of cypress trees, wine terraces and terracotta coloured houses. The arriving crews were fetched from their planes in old but beautifully maintained cars or in typically Italian 3-wheeler vehicles. By the evening of the 29th May a long line of Grummans were parked along the 700 meter grass runway affectionately name by Marco Petroni as "Valdera International Airport".
