The International AYA - with some 1,400 registered type AA1x, AA5x and AG5 Grumman aircraft, are gathering in Rinteln, a small, idyllically situated airfield in the Weser Uplands. The aero club has made every effort to handle the guests from Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy and Finland. "Cleared to land," says Friedhelm Steinkamp from the tower, which otherwise usually tends to speak German, "your flight plan is closed." What more could a pilot ask for?

Die internationale AYA - mit ca. 1.400 registrierten Grumman Flugzeuge der Typen AA 1, AA5 und AGB 5, gibt sich die Ehre in Rinteln, einem kleinen und idyllisch gelegenen Flugplatz im Weserbergland. Der Verein hat alle Kräfte aufgeboten, um die Gäste aus Belgien Dänemark, Deutschland, England, Holland Italien und Finnland zu betreuen. „Cleared to land" kommt es von Friedhelm Steinkamp aus dem Turm, auf dem sonst eher deutsch gesprochen wird, „your flightplan is closed". Was will das Pilotenherz mehr?

A German beer, of course - you'd think! But not the Brits; they drink red wine - straight from the barrel would be best, but plastic cups will do in a pinch. Nothing is impossible, says the aero club, and soon enough Wolfgang Rieber magically arranges for 30 bottles of red wine to appear on the table. Brian Hogan and his wife are beaming. You can really rely on the Germans!

Natürlich ein deutsches Bier - denkst du! Nicht die Briten, die trinken Rotwein, am liebsten aus dem Fass, zur Not auch aus Plastikbechern. Nichts ist unmöglich, sagt der Verein, und innerhalb kürzester Zeit zaubert Wolfgang Rieber 30 Flaschen Rotwein auf den Tisch. Brian Hogan und seine Gattin strahlen. Auf die Deutschen ist Verlass!

After arriving, the crews first stop by at Richard North's camping tent, registration is handled smoothly by the team of Wolfgang Rieber & Martina Trauboth, and they are then welcomed by rousing music from the local brass band on the terrace in front of the aero club in view of the 30 aircraft. Even upon arrival, the mood at the airfield in Rinteln is terrific! Most would have been happy to stay right at the airport. But after flights totaling up to 7 hours in duration and in view of the hot weather, the crews from Scotland and Finland, above all, want to head right for the showers.

Die eintreffenden Flieger passieren zunächst am Campingzelt von Richard North vorbei, perfekte Registrierung durch das Team Wolfgang Rieber & Martina Trauboth und werden sodann vor dem Fliegerheim auf der Terrasse in Sichtweite der 30 Flugzeuge mit zünftiger Musik vom örtlichen Blasorchester empfangen. Bombenstimmung auf dem Flugplatz in Rinteln bereits bei der Ankunft! Am liebsten wäre man gleich am Platz geblieben. Doch nach Flugetappen von insgesamt bis zu 7 Stunden und heißem Wetter wollen vor allem die Crews aus Schottland und Finnland erst einmal unter die Dusche.
